Hidden from public view. If you’re traversing from Cebu City to Mandaue City (or vice-versa), you might wonder what’s inside. However, right under these covered tarpaulin domes are your dietary mineral essential for life: sodium chloride (or unrefined salt), waiting to be processed as iodized salt. The salt storage lies next to a squatter area, near a filthy and stagnant water body, at the Mandaue Reclamation Area, just a few blocks off SM Cebu City. “Let’s ride!” This was Cebu Provincial Governor Gwen Garcia’s parting shot in her rousing speech last February 15, 2008 at the Boardwalk, Mandaue Reclamation Area.

She urged the local governments, other cities and municipalities to participate in a yet bigger Governor’s Cup, in the years to come. She was referring, of course, in a global scale.

CebuAsia: Governor's Cup 2008

CebuAsia has covered the erstwhile named Kabayo Festival this week.

The festival is now aptly called, “Governor’s Cup” which found its humble beginnings in 2005. The event is expecting 80 participants from around the Philippines: Masbate, Ormoc, Davao, Malaybalay, Bukidnon, Impasugong, Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro, Luzon and Dumaguete. This biggest annual gathering of horses, breeders, and horse lovers to date aims to improve livelihood.

(More stunning imageries in a slideshow, after the jump).
