“Let’s ride!” This was Cebu Provincial Governor Gwen Garcia’s parting shot in her rousing speech last February 15, 2008 at the Boardwalk, Mandaue Reclamation Area.

She urged the local governments, other cities and municipalities to participate in a yet bigger Governor’s Cup, in the years to come. She was referring, of course, in a global scale.

CebuAsia has covered the erstwhile named Kabayo Festival this week.

The festival is now aptly called, “Governor’s Cup” which found its humble beginnings in 2005. The event is expecting 80 participants from around the Philippines: Masbate, Ormoc, Davao, Malaybalay, Bukidnon, Impasugong, Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro, Luzon and Dumaguete. This biggest annual gathering of horses, breeders, and horse lovers to date aims to improve livelihood.

“This will improve the livelihood of people in the countryside and at the same time add luster to our name,” said Gov. Garcia.

“Tabo sa Sugbo,” a motley of retail stores, was formally launched to showcase various historical landmarks, tourist spots, local products and delicacies from the province’s municipalities.

The Governor’s Cup 2008 is supported by the Department of Tourism and organized by Cebu Equine Owners, Breeders and Sportsmen Association (CEOBSA).
