“Sinug” is the Grand Prize Winner of Sinulog 2008 Short Film Festival.

CebuAsia’s take: To watch a live Sinulog is everybody’s dream. But this is an astonishing piece of a short film, IF you haven’t seen the mother of all Philippine festivals yet! The film is at its grandest; “Sinug” gives you the thrill all throughout that relieving your Sinulog moments.

Just when you thought that the entire essence of Sinulog is somehow “bastardized” by the sleek introduction of contemporary, jaw-dropping “atmospheric weird steps”– think no more. “Sinug” is giving you this richly-colored cinematic flashback. This film speaks from the heart of a vision foretold. Every frame is precise, painted in a colorful palette of surprises, and delectably loaded with…

Engaging visuals, intense historical narrative and well-conceptualised production design. 8 Thumbs Up! A grand prix winner indeed!

About Sinug

This 10-minute video is a documentary of an evolution - Sinulog beat and dance. The production team, 8thumbs (John Vincent Labata, Iden Harris Delos Reyes, Remton Zuasola — the director — and John Darcy Arguedo) together with its writer Lyjunna Rosauro and producer Maridel Delegencia, took almost 1 month to create this piece. Fifty percent(50%) of the shoots were conducted at the 8thumbs studio in Talamban, Cebu City, Philippines.

Sinug” is a look-back of the Mother of all Festivals. The historical trace was supported by the Father of Sinulog Mr. David Odilao, Jr., multi-awarded choroegrapher Mr. Mych Gonzalez and the person who is considered to be the only key to old Sinulog, Estelita “Inday Titang” Diola. With a historical content, the production team decided to pair it with modern and up-beat presentation.
