CebuAsia: Sale-nulog in Cebu

Everything, last night, was frenzy. A good site to check it out is at the downtown shops.

The city is quite boisterous; all absolutely dazzling into the dizzy parameters of its grand fiesta: the Sinulog Festival. (Click on the photos below for a larger view).

While the fusion of faith and pageantry is nearing to its climax; during the annual grand parade (every 3rd Sunday of January, this 20th), products from around the country (major cities like Manila, Davao, Baguio and other nearby island provinces) also end up at the Street Fair.

A cool night wind was coming up through the heavy traffic and swarms of men and machines just gave way to the screaming evening.

I went to this motley of bazaars and stalls, dotted with all kinds of merchandise, along the sidewalks around Cebu. The one in Jones Avenue (beside Abellana National High School) is a must for the curious visitors and the seasoned local citizens.

Then, from the USC Main campus, I ended up walking towards Colon – with my buddy, Seigfredo (he christened Cebuasia.com) – because the monster traffic had blown our pedestrian comforts away. A cool night wind was coming up through the heavy traffic and swarms of men and machines just gave way to the screaming evening. There was nothing we could do about it.

It was both strange and tantalizing going along a madding throng of crowd; a heavy pouring of tourists and Cebuanos. And the word probably was a most pleasant of thought – to just drift into the oldest streets in the country, Calle Colon (named after Cristobal Colon a.k.a. journeyman Christopher Columbus).

En route, the sidewalks all teem with life. I remember this was a notorious place for pickpockets. But I shook the killer idea and braved it all. Armed with a camera, I captured glaring no-night shots of the nocturnal bustle.

From there, I inched through my way for Basilica Minore del Santo Niño which will be in the next post.
